How we research, fact-check, and maintain editorial independence — despite earning affiliate commissions when you book through partner links.
Last updated: June 2026
Escape RV Rentals is an independent comparison and guide platform. We earn affiliate commissions when you book through our partner links — and that commercial relationship creates a responsibility to be more rigorous, not less, in our editorial process.
Our Core Editorial Principles
Affiliate relationships never influence editorial rankings or recommendations. We do not accept payment for favourable placement within comparison tables or editorial content. Our partner relationships exist at a business level; individual editors are not compensated based on booking conversion.
We cite sources for all factual claims. Price data links to our Price Index (updated quarterly). Legal information links to official government or national park service sources, not secondary aggregators. Platform ratings are attributed to the platform they came from.
We distinguish opinion from fact. When editorial experience or analysis is the basis for a claim (e.g. "the South Island has better scenery"), we signal this as editorial opinion. Quantitative claims must be sourced.
We correct errors promptly and transparently. When factual errors are identified, we update the article, note the correction at the bottom of the page, and date the correction.
AI-assisted drafting is disclosed. Some content on this site is initially drafted with AI assistance. All AI-drafted content is reviewed, edited, and approved by a named human editor before publication. No AI-generated content is published without human oversight.
How We Research Price Data
Our RV Rental Price Index is compiled quarterly by querying available rates across 75+ depot cities via our partner APIs. Methodology:
Rates are sampled for a representative 7-day booking window, 30 days in advance
Median rate (not mean) is used to reduce outlier distortion
Peak season data (July–August) and off-peak data (November–March) are reported separately
Vehicle class definitions follow industry standard: Class B (campervans under 7m), Class C (cab-over, 6–9m), Class A (coaches, 9m+), 5th Wheel/Travel Trailer (tow vehicles)
Data is rounded to the nearest $5 for readability
How We Research Legal and Regulatory Information
Camping laws, freedom camping rules, driving licence requirements, and toll regulations are researched against:
Official government and tourism authority websites (we link to primary sources)
National park service websites (NPS, Parks Australia, DOC New Zealand, etc.)
We update regulatory content when laws change. If you believe content is out of date, please contact us with the relevant authority source.
How We Select and Evaluate Partners
We apply three selection criteria for all booking partners:
Minimum 4.0★ aggregate customer rating on their primary review platform (Google, Trustpilot, or platform-native reviews)
Demonstrable operational history of 3+ years with a track record that can be independently verified
Transparent insurance pre-checkout — we do not partner with operators that obscure insurance costs until after vehicle selection
We do not partner with operators that use deceptive pricing, have unresolved regulatory enforcement actions, or have persistent patterns of unresolved customer complaints. Full partner selection methodology: How We Work.
Corrections Policy
To report a factual error in any Escape RV Rentals guide:
Email editorial@escapervrentals.com with the page URL, the specific claim, and a link to a primary source that contradicts it.
We will review within 5 business days.
Confirmed errors will be corrected, a correction notice added to the article, and a brief acknowledgement sent to the reporter.
