Route overview

Campgrounds near Joshua Tree
- Jumbo Rocks Campground — Recreation.gov reservations required; sites for rigs up to 35 ft; book 4–8 weeks ahead for spring weekends.
- Hidden Valley Campground — First-come, first-served; arrives early on Fridays; compact sites favor Class B/C.
- Indian Cove Campground — Reservable; separate entrance from west side; good for larger Class A if Jumbo Rocks is full.
- BLM dispersed camping — Legal outside park boundaries with 14-day limit; no hookups; Class B/C recommended.
RV size and park restrictions
Joshua Tree roads are generally RV-friendly, but individual campsites vary. Maximum combined length at Jumbo Rocks is 35 ft. Class A renters should reserve specific long sites in advance. Generator hours typically 7am–7pm in NPS campgrounds.
Best season
October–April is ideal (60–75°F days). Summer highs exceed 100°F — AC use increases generator demand and limits hiking. Wildflower superblooms (Feb–Apr) sell out months ahead.
